2v1 Dribbling with Opposition
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
2v1 Dribbling with Opposition is a soccer dribbling drill for U8–U14 players built around one decision: dribble or pass? With a numbers-up attack against a single defender, the player on the ball gets constant repetitions of reading pressure and picking the option that actually beats the defender.

Setup
- Mark a 30×15 yard area and split it in half with cones so you have two adjacent grids.
- Two attackers start on one end line; the goal sits on the opposite end line.
- One defender starts on the halfway line and may only defend inside the first grid.
- Use a small pop-up goal, or a bigger goal with a goalkeeper for more of a challenge.
How It Works
- The first attacker passes to the second attacker - that pass activates the defender.
- The attackers take the defender on and try to score, remembering the defender can only operate in the first grid.
- The player in possession decides each moment: dribble past the defender or pass to the free teammate.
- Once through the first grid, the attackers finish on the goal. Rotate roles each round.
Coaching Points
- Judge the decision, not just the outcome: was pass, dribble, or shot the right choice? Tell players when they got it right.
- Close control when taking the defender on.
- Sharp change of direction to unbalance the defender.
- Change of pace to burst through the gap once it opens.
Variations
- Swap the small goal for a full goal with a goalkeeper to change the finishing challenge.
- Let the defender recover into the second grid after being beaten.
- Add a second defender in the second grid for a 2v2 finish.
