1v1 to Multiple Goals

1v1 to Multiple Goals is a soccer attacking drill for U7–U14 players that packs a whole game of duels into one grid. Every pair has its own goal to attack and defend, so every player is constantly taking someone on or marking someone - attacking space, changing direction, and learning what real man-marking responsibility feels like.
This drill pairs well with others in the dribbling category, and you can find age-matched sessions under U11 drills.
Setup
- Mark a grid roughly 40×40 yards.
- Split the team into pairs, one ball per pair.
- Scatter small flag or cone goals randomly inside the grid - one goal per pair.
- Each pair starts at its own goal.
How It Works
- Each pair plays 1v1 against each other using their own goal.
- Goals are scored by dribbling through the goal line - and can be scored from either side of the goal.
- Play rounds of 1–2 minutes, then rest briefly and rotate partners.
Coaching Points
- Attackers: stay aware of the other pairs sharing the space - collisions lose you the ball.
- Attackers: sharp changes of direction and pace create the opening to dribble through.
- Defenders: bent knees, low stance, patient feet.
- Defenders: read the attacker's touches and body, not the feints.
Variations
- Open up scoring so each pair may attack any goal in the grid - still 1v1 against the same partner, without interfering with other pairs.
