3v2 Flying Changes
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
3v2 Flying Changes is a soccer attacking drill for U11–U16 players that never stops moving. Waves of 3v2 attacks roll toward alternating goals, and the moment one attack ends the next begins - training attacking runs, support angles, shooting decisions, recovery defending, and above all mental alertness in transition.

Setup
- Set two full-size goals facing each other, 35–40 yards apart, with a goalkeeper and a supply of balls in each.
- Split the players into two even teams - for example blue and red - lined up at opposite ends.
- Place a cone on each sideline to mark the halfway point of the field.
How It Works
- Three blue players step on with a ball as attackers; two red players step on as defenders.
- If the blues score, they immediately receive a new ball and attack the opposite goal, while the beaten red pair steps off and two fresh red defenders step on.
- If the blues fail to score, they step off. The two red defenders become attackers, joined by one more red player, and two new blue defenders step on.
- Keep goalkeepers stocked with balls and allow no pauses between changes - the flying change is the drill.
Coaching Points
- Quick transition: heads switch from defending to attacking (and back) instantly.
- Change the direction and speed of play to unbalance the two defenders.
- Good first touch and smart choices between short and long passes.
- Take shooting chances early - a 3v2 advantage evaporates fast.
Variations
- Change the numbers: play 2v1 or 1v1 waves.
- Add a restriction such as beating a defender before shooting.
