Dribbling Warm-Up
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
This Dribbling Warm-Up is a ten-minute routine that touches every part of the foot before the real session begins. Players cycle through free dribbling, juggling, surface patterns, and sharp cuts inside one shared circle, so footwork and awareness warm up together. Use it to open any U8-U16 practice built around ball skills.

Setup
- Use the center circle, or build a similar circle with cones.
- Give every player a ball and start everyone inside the circle.
How It Works
- 2 min: free dribbling anywhere inside the circle, using both feet.
- 1 min: juggling with the feet only, alternating right and left.
- 2 min: dribble a strict surface pattern - right foot inside, outside, inside, outside, then the same with the left foot, switching feet continuously.
- 1 min: juggling with thighs and feet, still alternating sides.
- 2 min: cuts and turns - chop the ball sharply, then burst into a short sprint after each cut, using both the inside and outside of the foot and staying with the ball.
- 1 min: juggling with the feet, popping the ball up to the chest and back down to the feet.
- 1 min: full speed - cuts, turns, and collision-avoidance at maximum tempo.
Coaching Points
- Heads should lift constantly to scan for space and other players.
- In congested moments, keep the ball glued close so it can move quickly around obstacles.
- Insist on all surfaces: inside, outside, laces, and sole.
- Push hard through the final minute - finish the warm-up breathing heavily.
Variations
- Shrink the circle as the routine progresses to force tighter control.
- Swap a juggling block for a specific skill move of the week.
- Turn the final minute into tag: last player to avoid being tagged while dribbling wins.
