1v1 Dribble Attack with Shot
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
1v1 Dribble Attack with Shot is a soccer dribbling drill for U8–U16 players that rewards bravery on the ball: beat your defender, earn your shot. Because the attacker instantly becomes the next defender, the drill also doubles as sharp practice for defending the dribble.

Setup
- Mark a 15×15 yard grid about 18 yards from goal.
- Put a goalkeeper in the goal and one defender inside the grid.
- Place a starting cone about 15 yards from the grid and line the rest of the squad up behind it.
- Every player in line has a ball.
How It Works
- The first attacker dribbles into the grid and tries to beat the defender and exit through the far end.
- If the attacker dribbles out the far end successfully, they finish with a shot on goal.
- If the defender wins the ball, or the ball leaves through either side of the grid, the attacker immediately becomes the new defender.
- The next player in line starts as soon as a shot is taken or the defender wins the ball.
Coaching Points
- Head up: scan for the defender and space while keeping the ball in the bottom of your vision.
- Close control - the ball stays near enough to change direction in one touch.
- Balance: low center of gravity, knees bent, chest over the ball for quick stops and starts.
- Change of pace and direction: sharp cuts beat tackles and exploit space.
- Sell the feint with the whole body, then attack. Praise confidence and creative solutions near the box.
Variations
- Enlarge the grid to favor attackers; shrink it to favor defenders.
- Add a second defender and make the grid slightly bigger.
- Move the grid farther from goal and encourage finishing from distance.
