The Team Reaction Dribbling Drill is a soccer dribbling drill for U6–U12 players that mixes free dribbling with sudden bursts of reaction speed. One moment everyone is calmly working on touches inside the grid; the next, a name is called and the whole group is sprint-dribbling around a flag. Great for warm-ups, fitness, and team spirit.

Setup

  • Mark a grid about 20×20 yards.
  • Plant a flag 7–10 yards outside each corner of the grid - four flags in total.
  • Every player dribbles their own ball inside the grid.

How It Works

  1. Players dribble freely inside the grid, using all the space.
  2. The coach calls out a player's name. That player instantly picks any flag and dribbles around it at speed.
  3. Every other player must react and dribble around the same flag as fast as they can.
  4. The last player back inside the grid pays a small penalty - push-ups or sit-ups - then play resumes.

Coaching Points

  • Head and eyes up - players must see which flag the leader chose.
  • Close control and controlled body movement even at full speed.
  • Encourage all surfaces of both feet while dribbling fast.

Variations

  • Give players numbers and call numbers instead of names.
  • Call a name or number and have the leader circle one flag while everyone else rounds the diagonally opposite flag.
