Knock Out
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
Knock Out is a classic soccer dribbling warm-up for U6 to U10 players that hides serious skill work inside a game kids beg to play. Every player dribbles inside a shared grid, protecting their own ball while trying to boot everyone else's out of bounds. That double job forces heads up, tight touches, quick changes of direction, and bursts of pace, which is exactly what a dribbling session should start with.

Setup
- Mark a grid sized to your group; around 15×15 yards works for 8 to 10 players.
- Give every player a ball inside the grid.
- Keep spare balls handy so restarts are quick.
How It Works
- Players dribble anywhere inside the grid, keeping their own ball under control at all times.
- While shielding their ball, players try to kick opponents' balls out of the grid.
- No abandoning your ball; players must stay within playing distance of it.
- The first two knock-outs cost 5 to 10 push-ups, then the player rejoins the game.
- A third knock-out eliminates the player, and the game runs until a winner emerges.
Coaching Points
- Small, frequent touches keep the ball close enough to shield in an instant.
- Heads must stay up: half scanning for threats, half hunting targets.
- Teach players to put their body between their ball and the nearest hunter.
- Encourage sharp changes of pace and direction to escape crowded areas.
Variations
- Restrict dribbling to a specific surface: sole only, outside of the foot only, or weak foot only.
- Count a player as knocked out if they dribble over the boundary themselves.
- Shrink the grid as players are eliminated to keep pressure high.
