Goalkeeper Arc Drill 2
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
Arc Drill 2 raises the demand from the first version: instead of shots from fixed spots, the ball now travels. As a server dribbles across the top of the box, the keeper must slide along the goalkeeper's arc and keep the angle closed the whole way. It's a sharp goalkeeper positioning drill for U10–U16 keepers.
This drill pairs well with others in the goalkeeping category, and you can find age-matched sessions under U13 drills.
Setup
- Keeper starts in the goal with a large supply of balls nearby.
- Position 2–3 servers at one corner of the penalty area, each ready with a ball.
- Servers should be able to dribble at pace and shoot accurately on target.
How It Works
- The first server dribbles across the top of the penalty area.
- As the ball travels, the keeper shuffles along the imaginary arc 2–6 yards off the goal line, keeping their body between ball and goal at every moment.
- The server may shoot at any point during the dribble - no warning given.
- The keeper saves, recovers, and immediately finds position for the next server, who starts their dribble right away.
- Rotate through the servers continuously.
Coaching Points
- Fast shuffling feet, never crossed - crossed feet mean a slow push-off when the shot comes.
- Check the keeper's line constantly: ball, keeper, center of goal.
- Hold 2–6 yards of depth; standing on the goal line hands the shooter the angle.
- Insist on quick movement between positions - the arc only works if the keeper arrives before the shot.
Variations
- Start servers from alternate corners so the keeper must track dribbles in both directions.
- Allow servers a disguised pass to a second shooter to test the keeper's reset speed.
