2v2 Dribbling to Beat the Defender
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
2v2 Dribbling to Beat the Defender is a soccer dribbling drill for U10–U14 built around decisions: dribble, pass, or shoot? Two attackers advance through a corridor where each defender is locked to one zone, so every few yards presents a fresh 2v1 puzzle. Beat a defender and the reward is a shot on goal.

Setup
- Mark a 30×10 yard corridor and divide it into three 10×10 zones.
- Two attackers (A and B) start at the top of the corridor with a ball.
- One defender (C) starts beside the first dividing line; a second defender (D) starts on the opposite side of the next line.
- Place a goal with a goalkeeper on the end line - or a Pugg goal if no keeper is available.
How It Works
- Player A passes to player B to start the attack toward the far goal line.
- That first pass activates both defenders: C may defend only in zone 1, D only in zone 2.
- The attackers combine to advance; the player on the ball should be brave and take risks, while the supporting player gives a good angle and distance.
- Once a defender is beaten, the attackers can shoot. Finish every successful attack with a shot.
Coaching Points
- Approach the defender on the dribble with intent - slow, upright dribbling lets them set their feet.
- Beat the defender with a change of direction followed immediately by a change of pace.
- Supporting attacker: keep adjusting your angle so a pass is always available.
- Decide early - dribble if you have space, pass if the defender commits, shoot when beaten.
Variations
- Replace the big goal and keeper with a Pugg goal.
- Remove the zone restrictions so defenders can track anywhere.
- Rotate roles so every pair defends and attacks equally.
