Shooting on the Turn
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
Shooting on the Turn is a soccer shooting drill that forces U10-U16 players to strike quickly out of a turn instead of taking a settling touch. Each player slips the ball past a cone, sprints around the other side, and shoots first time - a game-realistic finish that punishes slow feet.

Setup
- Use a full-size goal with a goalkeeper.
- Place two cones about 20 yards from goal and roughly 10 yards apart.
- Split the team into two groups, one starting at each corner flag.
- Every player has a ball.
How It Works
- The first player in group 1 dribbles from the corner toward the cone on their side.
- About 5 yards from the cone, they pass the ball past the inside of the cone while running around the outside of it.
- They meet the ball on the other side and shoot first time - no extra touch.
- As soon as the shot is hit, the first player in group 2 starts from the other corner.
- Keep both lines alternating so the keeper faces a steady stream of shots.
Coaching Points
- Weight the pass around the cone softly so it sits up perfectly for the shot.
- Shoot with the correct foot for the side you attack from.
- Solid shooting form: plant foot beside the ball, strike through it, follow toward the target.
- Follow every shot in for rebounds.
- Watch the keeper's positioning and starting angle between shots.
Variations
- Make it a competition and keep a goal tally between the two groups.
- Switch sides so every player finishes with both feet.
- Move the cones closer or farther from goal to change the shooting distance.
