Four Corners Passing Game

Four Corners Passing Game - drill diagram40×40 yds
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot

The Four Corners Passing Game is a soccer passing drill for U10–U16 that rewards teams for changing the point of attack. Four small corner zones act as goals, and since you can't score in the same corner twice in a row, players are constantly forced to switch play and time their runs. It looks simple; it trains vision, pass weight, and patience in possession.

Setup

  • Mark a large area roughly 40×40 yards.
  • Build a small 5×5 yard zone in each of the four corners.
  • Split the group into two teams, one in alternate jerseys.

How It Works

  1. Teams keep possession and score by passing to a teammate inside any corner zone.
  2. A team may score in any corner except the one they scored in last.
  3. Players may not camp inside a zone waiting - the pass and the run must arrive together.
  4. Turnovers flip possession and the game continues without stopping.

Coaching Points

  • Weight and accuracy of every pass - the corner zones punish sloppy delivery.
  • Constant support around the ball; the carrier should always have two options.
  • Sync the run and the pass: too early is offside-thinking, too late is a turnover.
  • Switch the attack away from crowded corners rather than forcing the ball in.

Variations

  • Award the point only when the zone player plays a give-and-go back out to the passer.
  • Shrink the field for better groups, or add a neutral player for weaker ones.
  • Limit touches to two to speed up the switch of play.
