Four Corners Aggressiveness and Fitness Drill
Attackers Defenders Neutral Goalkeeper Pass Run Dribble Shot
The Four Corners drill is a competitive soccer fitness game built around one habit: attacking 50/50 balls at full speed. Four lines race to a served ball, and whoever gets there first has to fight to keep it. It works well for U8 players and older, and it doubles as sharp conditioning without anyone noticing they are running.

Setup
- Mark out a 30×30 yard grid with a cone at each corner.
- Divide the squad into four teams and line one team up behind each corner cone.
- The coach stands outside the grid, midway between two corner cones, with a large supply of balls.
How It Works
- The coach serves a ball into the middle of the grid and shouts a start command like 'GO'.
- The first player from each of the four lines sprints for the ball, trying to reach it first.
- The winner must shield and keep the ball away from the other three players for five seconds.
- After holding it for five seconds, the player passes back to the coach to score a point for their team.
- If someone steals the ball, the new owner starts their own five-second count.
- Play repeats with the next four players. First team to five points wins.
Coaching Points
- Demand a full sprint the moment the command comes - hesitation loses the ball.
- Teach players to put their body between the ball and the chasers when shielding.
- Count the five seconds out loud so everyone knows when to release the pass.
- Encourage bravery and determination in the challenge while staying safe and fair.
- Watch the return pass - it should be crisp, not a panicked clearance.
Variations
- Vary the service: lofted balls, bouncing balls, rolling balls, or serves with heavy spin so players read different flights.
- Serve two balls at once so two duels happen simultaneously.
- Shorten or lengthen the possession count to match the age group.
