2v2 Challenge

Focus of the Drill

This soccer drill focuses on putting players in 2v2 situations while attacking the goal. It is also designed to enhance fitness of players and makes players get habitual of intense times during the game.

Setup

  1. For setting up this game, you have to first split the group into two teams with a keeper in goal.

  2. Then, you have to proceed by placing two cones approximately 20-25 yards away from goal about 30 yards apart.

  3. Then, make sure to instruct one team to line up behind one cone and the other team behind the other team.

  4. The last step is to finally create a 5 X 5 yard box about 10-15 yards past the two cones.

  5. In the end, place all the balls in this box.

2v2 Challenge

How to Play

Following are the guidelines to be followed for this drill:

  1. Firstly, begin with having 2 players from each team enter the playing area.

  2. Each team will play 2v2 to goal. The dynamics of the game begin when you introduce the two basic rules of the drill which makes this drill different than the rest.

RULE 1:

If a players shoots and he misses, the shooter must quickly run to get their missed shot and dribble it back to the 5X5 box.

That player will then goes back to its team and await their next turn.

Once the shooting player dribbles back, his team can send in another player to even up the match at 2v2.

The other team will then run to the 5X5 box trying to catch the team who missed a shot.

RULE 2:

If a team scores a goal, they are awarded with a point.

The opposing player closest to the ball will be out and he must dig the ball out of the goal, and return the ball to the 5X5 box.

Moreover, the attacking team is running to the 5X5 box attempting to take advantage of a man down situation.

First team that scores 10 wins.

Different Versions

By introducing following changes, you can alter the game in your own way: 1. You can firstly limit players touches.

2. You can also keep track of Off Sides.

3. You can play with 3v3 or 4v4.

Coaching Tips

As a coach, you should work on following things:

  1. You should be able to build a 2v2 quick.

  2. You should be able to deliver tactics of quick transition between defense and offense to the team.
